Can You Actually Market Your Own Book or Do You Need Professional Book Marketing Services Behind You?

I have been sitting on this question for a while because I genuinely cannot make up my mind and I think it is worth having an open conversation about it here. My book went live a couple of months ago and I have put a fair amount of time into trying to promote it myself through social media, a few email newsletters and some basic Amazon listing tweaks but the traction just is not where I want it to be. Someone I met through a local writing group recently told me they used Self Publishing Book UK for their book marketing services and said the difference it made to their visibility was noticeable within a few weeks of the campaign getting started.
